example of a withdrawal slip used to get money without an atm or debit cardThere are so many ways to pay for things these days, from credit cards to apps like Venmo or CashApp, but even so, sometimes you need the convenience of cash. But what if you don’t have access to your debit card to withdraw cash? Can you withdraw money without a debit card?

The answer is yes, you can – there are a few different ways. So, if you’ve lost your debit card, or even worse, had it stolen, don’t fret. At People’s Community Federal Credit Union, you can still withdraw the money you need without a debit card.

Here’s how:

Option #1 – Use Your ID at One of Our Branch Locations

If you’re a People’s Community Federal Credit Union member, one easy option for withdrawing money without your debit card is visiting your local branch with your driver’s license. Your teller will be able to pull up your account information and provide you with the funds you need.

There are two ways to do this:

  • Fill Out a Withdrawal Slip: Decades ago, withdrawal slips were a huge part of personal banking. These days, since the advent of ATMs, they’re less commonplace, but we still have them. Simply fill out the slip and hand it to one of our friendly tellers. If you’ve never filled out one of these slips before, we can walk you through it.
  • Cash a Check: If your checking account provides you with paper checks, you can make one out to yourself or “Cash” and take it to a teller. We’ll be happy to cash the check free of charge.

Option #2 – Cash a Check at a Retailer or Bank Where You’re Not a Member

It’s important to note that this option isn’t always available. Most retailers won’t cash checks for you, but some, like Walmart, have Customer Service desks where this service is available. Just make sure to call the retailer beforehand to find out if they do, and what the limit is.

Additionally, if you’re nowhere near a People’s Community Federal Credit Union branch location, you can attempt to cash a check at another bank. Most will do this, but some will not. Some banks may also charge you a check-cashing fee.

Option #3 – Get Cashback with a Digital Wallet

If you’ve added your debit card to a digital wallet like Apple Wallet, you can still use all of the capabilities of the card, even if you can’t find the card itself.

With this in mind, find a retailer that offers cashback. (Many grocery stores do). Make a purchase and pay with the debit card in your digital wallet. It will give you the option to get cashback. There are usually cashback limits, but they’re generally high enough to cover your expenses until you can get a replacement debit card.

Option #4 – Ask a Trusted Friend or Family Member

If you have friends or family nearby, you can try asking them for a favor. Say you’ll transfer the money to them via one of the many popular money-transferring apps, like Venmo, CashApp, or Zelle, and have them withdraw the same amount for you at an ATM.

Are There Any Other Options for Withdrawing Cash without a Debit Card?

Yes, there are a few other ways to withdraw cash without a debit card, but we don’t recommend them, either because of a lack of security or heavy-handed fees. These include:

  • Check Cashing Services: If you don’t have access to a bank or retailer that will cash your check, you may consider a check cashing service. Unless it’s your only option, we suggest skipping these predatory businesses. They often charge sky-high fees that make it not worth your while.
  • Cardless ATM Withdrawal: We used to offer cardless withdrawals to our customers, but have discontinued due to the high security risks and instances of fraud.

Why Did You Stop Offering Cardless ATM Withdrawal?

While we greatly appreciated the convenience this service provided, at People’s Community Federal Credit Union, your security is our top priority, and we couldn’t continue offering it when the instances of fraud and abuse were continually higher than acceptable.

FAQs - How to Withdraw Money without an ATM Card or Debit Card

If your card has been stolen or is lost, the first step is to protect your account. At People’s Community Federal Credit Union, our debit cards are protected by CardLock Theft Protection, our free smartphone app that will notify you of suspicious activity and allow you to block transactions.

If you’re sure your card has been stolen, please call our member services line immediately so we can cancel the card and issue you a replacement

Once requested, a new card typically arrives in the mail within 7–10 business days.

To protect your identity and account security, we require a valid, government-issued photo ID. This includes:

  • State-issued Driver’s License
  • State ID Card
  • U.S. Passport or Passport Card
  • Military ID

While we don’t have the same strict limits as an ATM, very large withdrawals may require advance notice to ensure the branch has the necessary cash on hand. For standard daily needs, your ID and a withdrawal slip are all you need!
